John has taught thousands of students the art of fly-tying and fishing techniques for both Trout Unlimited Chapters and different adult evening classes. He has also written fishing articles for Field & Stream, Fly-Fisherman Magazine and the PA Angler. As one of his options, fly tying can be substituted for guide service time in off-periods of fishing.

Dry fly fishing is John's speciality and preference for most of the streams that will be fished. He will supply the fisherman with the best flies for that days fishing to match the hatches. April fishing will include large hatches of Quill Gordons, Hendricksons and Red Quills along with enormous caddis hatches. In late April and early May, the rivers that will be fished are large and casts of 70 feet or more are not unusual to reach feeding fish. Fly rods of 8 to 9 feet are highly recommended with 7 weight, weight forward line for ease of fishing.
